Watch out guys, it’s dynamite and it’s moving here……..a rare album, long unfindable and which is a pure groove, jazz and extremely well arranged gem. The superb theme composed by Oliver Nelson in “the six million dollar man” is here in full force and among the many composers who have written on this American series, this theme is really the most imposing. Mancini is also taken up and with what brilliance! In short, an album that I warmly recommend you to listen to and discover without further delay. My dear friends of this site, I wish you a good listening of this little nugget!
those who invented the goldfish in his jar are probably the same ones who invented steve austin’s in his cage…lol
Its actually been available on digital download stores for years. The interesting thing about the Six Million Dollar Man theme on this album is that it’s arranged and produced by Oliver Nelson himself! so there’s a certain authenticity about this version. In fact I think Nelson produced the entire album…
I don’t think, there is a difference in production between the tracks attributed to Nelson and those of Groove….. On the other hand, all the album was sampled by Groove, it’s a certainty and yes, Nelson is the composer and orchestrator on this album.
Not sure what you’re trying to say exactly, Diogenes. The album wasn’t ‘sampled’ by Groove – he is the keyboard player on each track and the ‘star’ of the album, and some of the other musicians were Oscar Brashear, Tom Scott, Mike Wofford, Gene Cipriano, Larry Bunker, Shelly Manne, Bud Shank, Jerome Richardson…to name a few. All top rank jazz and session players. Groove wrote three of the tracks (one in partnership with Oliver Nelson). To me, it’s as much an Oliver Nelson album as a Groove Holmes one!
All the tracks were, as you say, arranged and conducted by Nelson (EXCEPT ‘Double Scale’, which was written, arranged and conducted by Tom Scott)
well in fact the theme of “six million dollar man” is not a composition of Groove, but of Nelson and originally this piece was composed by Nelson on guitar. What makes this piece of 6 minutes is sampled by the addition of several mini theme declined present in the series. That Groove spreads its keyboards in the middle of the track and the other tracks of the album is an evidence, but the arrangements of the album “sample” are signed Groove….You understand?
A te lire…
