Just been listening to this Soundtrack. Well I suppose it is a reasonable score, but Joe Kraemer is sure not as good as Michael Giacchino. Giacchino is a genius at spy movie scores, and was especially good on the M:I series as he used all the themes from the original TV Score, and not just the one theme (Title Theme) as all the other Score artists have done. That was what was so brilliant about Michael Giacchino. So it beggars the question, why did he not do this score too? I know he is much in demand, but really… And I still harbor (‘Harbor’ in proper English means Cherish or keep close, where ‘Harbour’ is a safe haven for ships. The Yankee’s use the or to mean both, lazy sods.) a hope of one day hearing a Michael Giacchino James Bond Score (not that Thomas Newman didn’t do a brilliant job. David Arnold was also pretty good, especially the earlier Brosnan OST’s. But those last two, he just phoned those in.). But Giacchino, well… That I would love to hear. Bet he’d use all the cues that the late brilliant John Barry wrote. And I am of a mind that even the Dr No Theme (commonly called the James Bond Theme), which was credited to Monty Norman, was really more Barry than Norman. It has too many hallmarks Of Barry’s flare. He like original Mission: Impossible score writer, Lalo Schifrin, was unique and while multifaceted had a particular style. Some of these new score artists just do not understand the concept of an identity for each idea or situation. Take the Nolan Batman scores. Really terrible. No identity just noise. Especially the last two films. So many are like that these days. I was pleasantly surprised by Henry Jackman’s X-Men: First Class, purely because he had managed to give the score such identity. The Magneto Theme was particularly brilliant. Most scores these days are starting to sound all alike and soulless. That includes this one to a large degree. Shame.
