Ennio Morricone is my bedside composer …. I have admired his work for many years. An exceptional thematicist, a great writing intelligence, an outstanding arranger and orchestrator … He has touched all styles of music, got involved very early in research and musical experiments …. He was not a great simphonist, like Goldsmith or Williams, but even when he approached the matter, he did it with great talents and always with that thematic elegance that makes us recognize Morricone. instantly. It was he who introduced the fourth main actor into the cinema when there were only three ….. Have you ever tried to watch “once upon a time in the west” without the music? You won’t last 20 minutes ….. He paved the way for the greatest artistic collaboration of our time in cinema … What he did with Sergio Leone was followed by williams / Spielberg for example .. … A huge composer, if not the greatest …

As for “Once Upon A Time In The West”, well, a classic western, but you’re so right , without the amazing music it just would not be ” A Classic”
A lot of Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks are great, but the films themselves are not that great.
Anyway, what an INCREDIBLE Legacy the Maestro has left us all to enjoy.

This is the unique peculiarity of Ennio Morricone among his contemporaries. Here is a man, a composer, who has known throughout his career to be as uncompromising in his musical compositions, on the big American productions as on the small films of the Z series …..
