Dreary and boring. The only listenable parts are the three suites, which feature music by the inimitable Akira Ifukube. The first of these is adapted from the score to Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), and incorporates Ifukube’s Mothra theme, “Mahara Mosura”, while the second is the end title to 1995’s Godzilla vs Destroyer, which features a motif from King Kong vs Godzilla (1962). Strange, since neither of these kaiju are slated to appear in G-1, but then, Kong wasn’t in Destroyer either. I’m really looking forward to seeing this film, but unfortunately Sato’s score is a whole lot of waiting for something to happen that never does, a trait it shares with all too many film scores these days.
