The soundtrack is strongly based on rambling latin guitar tunes, which is OK, although Cuba was never richer in music styles than in the the time the story of “Fires Within” takes place, so there is a lot of potential missed out imo. But what disappoints me is that each track turns midway into cheap keyboard-synthie sound, ruining the rather standard-like mariachi mood. This soundrack has the feeling of a mildly motivated live-band at a tourist location instead of transporting drama, romance and tension – and the atmosphere of a place that plays a supporting role: Cuba. Jarre put way more effort in other works.
