very…very rare album !!! Congratulations, Admin 007 !!! Incredible, really…Thank you so much, for our eyes only !!! The End but Admin 007 will return…And we are very lucky of it !!!
If Matt Monro was the first performer of a title song for “From Russia with love” (superb voice by the way, but the song does not appear in the credits but on the radio, during the beginning of the film!), Shirley Bassey is the only singer to have performed 3 songs for a James Bond film. There should have been one for “Thunderball”, “Mister Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” but the Tom Jones song was preferred. Note that to be “up to par” with Lady Bassey, after “Goldfinger”, Tom Jones fainted in the studio after holding the final note of his song…It’s not easy to be at Diva level! …Fortunately, he had Tina Turner and Adèle afterwards…(after the performances of another genre but totally successful by Louis Armstrong, Nancy Sinatra, Paul McCartney for the best). But since then, how insipid the songs have been.
To be fair, we only got two movies/title songs since Adèle stole the scene with Skyfall. I think Billie EIlish performance for No time to die was a good one nonetheless, if of a different kind (I found its rythm mesmerizing and liked the way it was incorporated in the movie scenes). Among my favorite themes remains “You know my name” for Casino Royale, which pulled the trick of being a good rock song and a good Bond song. Definitely helped to define the new version portayed by Daniel Craig.
You might like a documentary called “The sound of 007”, which offers insights about the way themes and songs got created. A bit light since it covers the whole franchise, but very entertaining nonetheless!
Thank you very much for your observations. I was sure that somebody would evocate the Biillie Ellish song, which, for me, is not part of the 007 sound repertoire. But it is obviously a matter of taste and generation. Sheena Easton, Carly Simon, A-Ha, Duran-Duran, Gladys Knight, Rita Coolidge are good experiences too. .. I saw the documentary “the sound of 007”, which was very good. There was on Amazon “the sound of 007” the concert, but it disapears alas (presenting by David Arnold, the best successor of John Barry for me). Finally a musical exchange at this place! And that’s good ! THANKS, Nathan !
There’s a good BBC Radio documentary (not available at the moment, but you can find it if you look around), as part of the BBC Radio Timeshift strand:

Hello, Cinescribe ! Thank you very much for your informations ! The history of music and songs from the James Bond saga is like diamonds: eternal! Everyone has their preferences, of course, so many generations having joined the myth since 1962. I’m born in 1966 and I discover James BOND with the figure of Sean Connery and the music of John Barry. For me, “nobody does it better”..But it must be recognized that the quality has always been there throughout these years. I would add to the very appreciable singers and songs in the spirit of Bond: Lulu, Sheryl Crow, The Pretenders, Patti LaBelle, Madonna, Garbage…A word on the “dissident” Bond films:
-1967 : Casino Royal (le premier si l’on excepte le téléfilm de 1954), épisode parodique par excellence, qui divise : On déteste ou on adore (Je suis dans le dernier cas). La musique de Burt Bacharach est formidable et la chanson de Dusty Springfield est devenue un classique.
– 1983 : “Never say never again” : Sean Connery makes an unexpected return, in direct competition with the filming of “Octopussy”. A stated desire to make fun of Albert R. Broccoli…Problem for the music: Impossible to use the “James Bond Theme”. And the handicap will not be lifted by the performance of Michel Legrand, a legendary cinema composer, who will have a hard time finding his feet. Its jazzy orientation is a little offbeat. Sean Connery would later say that he hated Legrand’s work…For the credits, the disaster is more limited, with a song that stays more or less in tune. With a much higher budget and an experienced director (Irvin Kershner), the film will be far behind “Octopussy” at the box office…This will be the first “musical misunderstanding” for James Bond, although it remains separate.
Thanks!
Cheers.
Thank you very much for this rare and sparkling album.
Thank you very much.
