Not only is this one of John Barry’s best — and the horns have that distinct John Barry quality to them — but this soundtrack was one of the first, perhaps THE first, to have been digitally recorded by the studio. That is one of the reasons it’s taken so long to see a proper digital release: the equipment needed to decode the original digital source material was thought to be lost, until a single functioning unit was found and pressed back into service.
If memory serves, at the time of release this movie had the longest single CGI shot ever put to film, the monochrome descent into a wireframe black hole during the opening credits.
Yes, the movie is a bit of a confused mess, but it’s a cherished part of my childhood. The “hell scenes” at the climax gave me nightmares for weeks.
many thanks for this masterpiece, what else to talk about ? do not miss it ! un vrai chef-d’oeuvre,Monsieur Barry à l’époque à surprit beaucoup de monde, a real pleasure, thanks, merci !

This isn’t the “proper digital release”…the Intrada release is the one. The liner notes with the Intrada release explain it all.
