It was renewed for a second season. They finished shooting a few months ago and it’s premiering in 2023.

Too bad the show is going to be garbage.
I’m not a fan of Bear McCreary. His music for the Battlestar Galactica reboot was boring, repetitive, and to my ears, just unlistenable, particularly when compared to the outstanding work done by Stu Philips on the original (I’m tempted to say “real”) show. Having said that, from the trailers, the music for this show sounds better than his previous work, largely because he seems to be mimicking Howard Shore’s scores to the film trilogy. Instead of this, I’m just going to listen to the excellent “The Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings” box set (available here, btw).
Gary, nobody cares. You’ve pre-judged the Rings of Power, you’re dissing this release before you’ve even heard it, and you’re just pain wrong about Battlestar, which were excellent scores. Pipe down.

You’re right! People who judge a Show/Film before they have seen it, can’t be taken serious!
And for Bear Mccreary: simply a genius! His music for Battlestar Galactica is a masterpiece!

I concur. Some of my favourite tracks are from BSG his scores.
This sounds more like someone who just doesn’t like the idea of the show, and or doesn’t like some of the guy’s past work. But he’s far from terrible. Call of Duty: Vanguard had one of the most interesting scores that a COD game’s had in years. God of War’s score was and still is absolutely incredible, and you can say whatever you want but the guy is a wiz for making incredible themes that stick with you. The tracks released before the full score drop were all pretty solid, and he sounds in the wheelhouse of Shore’s work without blatantly copying it like many other lesser composers would have tried to do.
The dude’s one of the most in demand composers in the business for a reason. He knows what he’s doing, and does some incredible work.

McCreary is an outstanding composer and his BSG is absolutely awesome. I heard it also in a concert. goosebumping great.
Who Cares apart from you Gary, I like Bear McCreary’s Music and Loved the Godzilla: King of the Monsters Soundtrack which was epic. No one is forcing you to listen to his music if you don’t like it.

I also believe Bear is an excellent choice for this new musical mantle of Middle Earth. Bear’s imagination and knowledge of world musical instruments are pretty epic and we can hear that immediately in this release. Let us also remember that Howard Shore composed the Main Title here for the Rings of Power (Track 1), akin to what John Williams did for Solo and Obi-Wan. The highest form of sophisticated musical flattery is imitation, a practice that began in the 1480s with Renaissance masses being modeled after motets from other composers, and Bear is clever and sophisticated enough to do this with Shore’s theme. Bear is that good, yes. Shore is much more influenced by German romanticism than Bear so we likely won’t get that uber-European flavor as often, but if you crank Track 5 you will hear Bear’s version of the same idea. Bear is the man.
it is about time indeed that this composer was given the opportunity to work hard on big budget films. He is capable of it, he is a talented composer with a sense of melody and theme, undeniable. disturbed at home, it’s his orchestration. It’s very mediocre …..
